Deciding on a Plan:
1) If you follow the
individual training of each group of muscles, you
would spend your entire life without getting what you want accomplished.
Mainly because there are too many muscles, and endless ways
of training them. If you know how to train the biceps in a five of six
different ways, each in a handful of sets, each set in a handful of
repetitions, how many years would it take you to get your biceps the way
you want them to be?
2) If you follow the
one-day per body-part training, how do you know
what proportions are you getting? You would need many specialists to
analyze your proportions, your balance, speed, flexibility, and
coordination. That is untenable proposition.
3) If you have no life to enjoy other than bumping iron an injury would
be inevitable, because dealing with your body is a science that you cannot
master just by reading few magazines and talking to other fellows. If you
frequent the same magazines over and over you make the same mistakes over and over. It is inevitable that
you balance your life on all human levels. You lift with your soul before
your body get used to performing..
4) If you think that weightlifting can get you to Hollywood, you better
make an alternative plan. If you do not, the alternative will be bitter.
The few who made it were helped by existing circumstances that might not
exist in your case. If you get there, what are you going to do with your 24
hour day? A huge muscular body with improper strength is hard to move
around. You only have one heart and two knees. Neither the heart nor the
knees can exceed a certain level of energy consumption in one person’s
life.
Lean and mean is better than big and mean.
Four Schemes:
Weightlifting has emerged into four or so schemes of
training. Choosing a particular scheme to fit your goals will impact your
future health and quality of life. Medicine and science have been minimally
utilized, if at all, in delineating the different schemes. As expected, medicine and
science have only progressed in areas where human suffering demands public
attention. But in the preventive or long term planning of strength
building athletes have set their own experiments and reached
their own conclusions. When competition gains public support, financial
resources become available for institutionalizing such fortunate sport.
Weightlifting was not that fortunate as boxing, wrestling, or other
individual sports.
A wise choice is approach your plan very open mindedly. The
four styles of weightlifting are not defined
by divine doctrine. Thus I will suggest to you to choose them
all. How can we reconcile such vast scope of contradicting ideas of training?
That is what this web site is all about. It is about integration of
resistance training is an efficient way of minimizing long term deformation
that bodybuilders suffer from, crippling
injuries that powerlifters incur, short longevity that weightlifter
complacently accept, and unsatisfactory accomplishments that general
weight training leads to.
